The drive axle half-shaft transmits torque from the differential mechanism to the wheel hub via a planetary reduction gearing system, operating under dynamic load conditions characteristic of heavy-duty Liebherr construction and mining equipment. The component is manufactured from 42CrMo4 alloy steel subjected to induction hardening to a surface hardness of 58–62 HRC with a hardened case depth of 2.5–4.0 mm, while maintaining a ductile core resistant to impact loads. The multi-spline journals at both shaft ends are ground to dimensional tolerances of Ra ≤ 1.6 µm, minimizing fretting in the connection with the planetary hub and differential carrier. The shaft transmits torque up to 18,000 Nm with momentary dynamic overloads exceeding 1.3 times nominal rating, typical during start-up or operation over uneven terrain. Sealing surfaces in contact with seal rings require a roughness of Ra ≤ 0.8 µm to prevent gear oil (SAE 80W-140, oil pressure up to 3.5 bar) from entering the hub cavity. Operation in abrasive mineral contaminant environments accelerates abrasion and contact fatigue on the splines. Liebherr recommends shaft replacement upon detection of radial play exceeding 0.15 mm or visible pitting on the working surface.

New parts are original Liebherr products from official manufacturer distribution.
Used parts undergo a multi-stage verification process ensuring their condition and performance parameters. This is an attractive alternative offering an excellent price-to-remaining-life ratio.
