The clutch disc carrier for Liebherr hydraulic pump distributor gearboxes is a precision-engineered support structure for the lamella clutch package assembly mounted in the power take-off (PTO) unit between the engine flywheel and the main hydraulic pumps of A-series wheel excavators and L-series wheel loaders. The component is manufactured from improved alloy steel 18CrNiMo7-6 or 16MnCr5, hot-forged and case-hardened to a surface hardness of HRC 58–62 on the working flanks of the external teeth, while maintaining a tough core of HRC 30–40 with a hardened layer depth of 0.8–1.2 mm. A DIN 5480 involute spline bore couples the carrier to the distributor gearbox output shaft and transmits continuous torque up to 1500 Nm, with transient overloads reaching 2500 Nm during pump load steps. The external load-bearing teeth guide steel friction discs of the lamella package; their surfaces are ground to a roughness of Rₐ ≤ 0.4 µm to minimize fretting and contact fatigue during thousands of clamping cycles. The carrier qualifies for replacement when visible abrasion or bluing of the tooth flanks is observed (indicating overheating and hardness loss below HRC 50), when spline wear is measurable at the tooth root, or when fatigue cracks are detected via dye-penetrant inspection during PTO service. Preventive replacement together with a complete set of friction discs is recommended every 8000–12 000 engine hours.
