The rotating shaft seal for slewing gear reducer is a radial lip-type sealing element designed for installation on the output shaft of the slewing gear transmission in Liebherr machinery. The sealed shaft is manufactured from induction-hardened 42CrMo4 steel with hardness of 55–62 HRC and surface roughness Ra 0.2–0.4 µm in the contact area, ensuring proper lip engagement and minimizing abrasive wear. The seal housing is fabricated from deep-drawn steel, while the working lip is composed of FKM elastomer resistant to GL-5 class gear oils across the temperature range from –30 °C to +150 °C. A stainless steel wire compression spring maintains the lip contact pressure to ensure sealing integrity at static oil pressure up to 0.3 bar and shaft peripheral velocity up to 6 m/s. Under operational conditions of the slewing reducer, the seal is exposed to fretting and contact fatigue induced by radial reaction forces from the gear rim reaching several kilonewtons. Therefore, correct alignment of the seal installation in its seat without skewing and mounting impacts is essential for achieving nominal service life. The seal must be replaced together with the flange sealing ring of the housing during each diagnostic disassembly of the gear transmission or upon detection of Liebherr Gear Oil leakage on the external surface of the reducer housing.
