The Liebherr bucket tooth tip is a replaceable ground engaging tool (GET) mounted on a tooth adapter that is welded to the cutting edge of an excavator or wheel loader bucket. The tooth tip is manufactured from low-alloy hardened steel with boron and chromium additions, featuring a surface hardness in the range of 48–55 HRC, which ensures high resistance to wear and abrasive erosion when excavating cohesive soils, gravel, and rocky material. The rear socket of the tooth tip is calibrated with fit tolerances that allow secure seating on the adapter nose; locking is achieved using a wedge and spring bushing in accordance with the Liebherr Z-system (classes Z23–Z45 for mid-sized excavators). The tooth tip absorbs all frictional and impact loads, protecting the adapter from direct contact with excavated material. Allowing the tooth tip to wear completely and transferring wear to the adapter escalates repair costs by 5 to 100 times the price of the tooth tip alone — owing to the necessity of welding and potential replacement of the bucket cutting edge by a certified welder. Tooth tip replacement in field conditions takes several minutes and requires no specialized tools. Wear condition inspection should be performed every 50–100 machine hours, and replacement should be carried out before the adapter nose becomes exposed.
