The work attachment pin is a hardened steel pivot shaft with a surface hardness of 58–62 HRC, serving as the rotation axis in articulated connections between the boom, stick, and bucket. Its polished working surface (Ra ≤ 0.4 µm) interfaces with bronze bushings, enabling smooth articulation under shock loads up to 250 kN. A welded retaining flange prevents pin rotation within the bore. The critical wear mechanism is abrasion initiated by contaminated lubricant, causing wear, Brinell indentation, and fatigue cracking at the flange weld zone. This degradation produces clearance growth and uncontrolled bucket movement. Scheduled replacement as an assembly with bushings is significantly more cost-effective than emergency repair following material fatigue failure, which can result in sudden attachment detachment and extended machine downtime. Regular inspection and preventive replacement eliminate irreversible structural damage and maintain operational safety with precise control fidelity.
