Rotary lip seal assembly installed at boom, stick, and bucket pivot pin joints on Liebherr excavators, wheel loaders, dozers, and material handlers. Functions as a classical radial seal between the rotating steel pin and its supporting bushing within the working equipment articulation, creating a sealed interface that retains lubricant and excludes external contaminants.

Primary function is dual: retention of grease (typically Liebherr-Spezialfett 9900 or equivalent) inside the pin joint under cyclical loading, and exclusion of water, dust, sand, and abrasive particulates from the articulation environment. Without effective sealing, grease rapidly washout occurs, allowing ingress of moisture and abrasive material into the bushing-pin clearance, causing accelerated wear of both components and resulting in joint looseness, noise, vibration, and loss of equipment control precision.

Critical failure modes include rubber hardening from UV and thermal exposure, lip cracking under cyclical pin rotation loads, grease washout from inadequate central lubrication maintenance, and pin galling caused by loss of seal integrity. Planned replacement during central lubrication system service intervals—including seal, bushing, and worn pin components—requires minimal technician time andcost. Field failure results in machine immobilization, secondary damage to bushing and pin, and extended downtime with associated production loss.
